[tagg: sharky chimera (subject to change, if I think of something better)]
Name: Lumi Ischa
Age: 35
Race: Chimera (Human/shark hybrid)
Height/Length: 6ft from head to the base of the tail, 10ft total (including tail fin)
Weight: 145 (with legs), 155 (with tail)
Hair: Long, mostly straight, black
Eyes: Black
Skin: Copper
Physical Description: Lumi has a somewhat curvy body, mostly due to a bit of extra fat her body keeps for defending against colder temperatures under water. Her long dark hair is mostly straight and parted in the middle, with no bangs. It falls past the middle of her back at it’s longest point. She has gill slits on her torso, located along the spaces between her ribs, which are only visible when she is in water. Most times, they are covered by both a simple undershirt, and if she is going to be in a populated area; a hooded longcoat. Her lower body is covered by a full length skirt that is easily slipped on and off, and will not hinder her should she need to change from legs to tail. Lumi wears no shoes and very little (if any) jewelry. She will however wear a scarf in addition to her coat for extra obscurity.
Her teeth are sharp and rather shark-like. When in that shape, Lumi’s tail resembles that of a thresher shark, and she has accompanying pectoral fins. She lacks a dorsal fin. Lumi’s skin is coppery in color and mostly smooth, with only a few rough patches, particularly on her tail (when tailed), or the bottoms of her feet, and on her knees.
Background: Like most chimera, Lumi’s story begins with the military, where she was a low ranking officer of dubious heritage, who escaped the purge only due to the fact that she was severely injured in battle. Before that point, she’d been a top ranked fighter, skilled in hand to hand and knife combat, though her unarmed was her main focus.
While normally a mixed blooded person such as her self would have been allowed to die from her injuries at the time, her unique fighting style and capabilities made her valuable enough for the military to have her sent to the 5th laboratory instead, where she was [somewhat] successfully subjected to experimentation combining her own genetic code with that of a shark, creating a new chimera. The procedure was not without complications however, and during the process her vocal cords were irreparably altered, causing any attempt at sound come come out as nothing more than a strange, rasping breath. In addition, her initial transformation left her with a tail, flopping around the transmutation circle. She was fortunate enough that the gills that formed between the gaps in her rib cage didn’t hinder her ability to breath air, so at least she wasn’t gasping for breath.
She was initially kept in a large tank due to her being at first unable to transition out of her tail. For an unknown amount of time, this caused Lumi to have a very silent solitary life, wherein she was mostly fed raw (sometimes live) fish while the alchemists responsible tried to decide what to do with her.
Over time, the alchemists and guards grew complacent, expecting that she would never be anything more than a fish in an aquarium. They left her alone more and more often, giving her enough private time that she began trying to change her tail into legs when she knew they weren’t going to be back for some time, in hopes that she would eventually be able to escape.
She still hadn’t managed the trick when the mass breakout happened. She was determined though, and threw herself out of the tank, fully prepared to use her arms to drag herself out of there. A possibility she was fortunate enough not to have to endure, as one surprisingly young looking girl stopped just long enough to sling Lumi under her arm and half drag her along, aided though only a small amount by the swishing movements of her tail. It wasn’t until they were out in the open that she discovered the girl had wings, and the other chimera discovered in turn that Lumi couldn’t speak.
By the time they reached Dublith, Lumi [at last] was able to walk on her own, though she still had a difficult time communicating with many of the people she’d somehow ended up traveling with. She spent a lot of that time either on her own, or sticking close to the girl (who she learned was named Llyria) who had helped her escape, and to this day she seems to be the only person who can understand what Lumi is trying to say, based almost entirely on her huffing breaths, expression, and body language.
Upon reaching Dublith and establishing the Devil’s Nest, an aquarium of sorts was constructed on one side of the building. Mostly a simple box made of wood and glass, this nevertheless was Lumi’s primary home while the bar was in operation, and her exotic, mermaid like appearance brought about the idea that she could be used as a kind of attraction for the place, and so she earned her keep there by periodically emerging from behind a curtained part of the tank, making herself visible to the (usually drunk) patrons.
The sole reason that she escaped the purge with her life, was that no attention was paid to her tank. One of the chimera pulled the curtains just before the fight began and she went unseen by the military. During the fight, several random gunshots pierced the glass walls, causing the water to leak out of the tank. It was empty by the time the military had left, and for a time Lumi was forced to live in the tunnels below so that she could be near a source of moisture (inadequate though it may be).
Powers and Abilities: After being transformed into a chimera, Lumi gained the following abilities:
Minor shape shifting – Lumi can transition between an aquatic form, with a shark tail, to a land dwelling form with legs. Her skin remains copper colored in either form.
Water breathing – Lumi has lungs that can breath air, however she also has gill slits between her ribs, allowing her to breath underwater as well.
Rapid Healing – As a chimera, Lumi heals from injuries more quickly than a human would, though not at the same rate as a homunculus, nor to the same degree. She can still be fatally wounded and killed by a powerful and/or skilled opponent.
Natural Armor – Another benefit of being a chimera is that Lumi’s skin is stronger than a humans, particularly around her tail. She can take more damage without falling, and she can deal more damage as well.
Animal senses – Lumi’s sense of smell is incredibly developed, especially when in water. She also has acute hearing and sight.
